First Jeep Upgrades

first mod on jeepSo, a while back I bought a 2007 Jeep Liberty.  I wanted a 4-wheel drive that I could eventually pull behind an RV. I love this Jeep!  It pulls our little utility trailer like a dream, it has power, it is a 4×4, and more.  I plan on making a bunch of mods to it over time 🙂

The first mod is actually 2 at the same time.

First after a bunch of research we decided to go with the Blue Ox Tow Bar System.  We bought the tow bar, the base plate, and the break light wiring from a local shop that sells and installs this stuff everyday :: Major Tire and Hitch.

I called our fried Bruce who is a electrical whiz to help me install the break light wiring while Chris was in Twin Falls with our friends.  It is it’s own system and does not tie into the factory wiring on/in the jeep, so it has it’s own bulb and socket and is powered by the vehicle that is doing the towing.

monster looking jeepAfter stringing the wires under and through the jeep we decided it would be easier to install the Base Plate at the same time. We changed gears a little and put the jeep up on ramps and removed the bumper and grill.  It was straight forward and fairly easy.  The only hard part was drilling extra holes to add the 5th and 6th bolts.

Once the base plate was installed we went back to the wiring.  The 2007 Jeep Liberty had an extra spot in the tail light assembly to add the extra light socket and bulb, I just had to drill a 1 inch hole.  That was a little nerve wracking trying to make sure I didn’t get it too big (I didn’t – It works great!).

Second Mod: Putting Raptor Liner (truck bed liner) on the Bumper! I used RAPTOR Black UP4883 Bedliner 13.02 Oz 2K Aerosol since I was only doing the bumper.  I am going to eventually paint the Whole Jeep in some form of Truck Bed Liner (black and olive green – like my Army HUMMV was!) and this is the first step!  It worked awesome, yet I should have got 2 cans instead of only one so there are some places that only got one coat.

She is all back together and looks great.  Thanks for the help Bruce!
